Final Checklist

Well done on getting to this point. Use everything you have learned from Step One to Three. Use the below 'Final Checklist' to make sure you haven't forgotten anything so far.

Here are a couple of more tips to watch before filming:

Zoom – avoid using the ‘zoom’ function on your device. Just move the jobseeker closer to the camera

Set Dressing – When filming, if the jobseeker is sitting down, make sure the background is neat and tidy and not messy.

It's time to test!

Confidence comes when you understand what your video will look and feel like. You can take small videos or simply let the device continue recording. Take as many videos as you need to film your answers to questions.

Did you take option 1 – talking directly to the camera?

Do a practice film from start to finish of your video. Be dressed and ready to film, go to your location, set up your device and do a test video with your script.

Go through the Final Checklist. Not only to make sure your setup is giving you the look and sound quality you want, but also to practice presenting in front of a video camera. This will help you get rid of some nerves.

Then start filming!

Did you take option 2 – interviewed by your V-Partner?

Film a casual conversation between you and your V-Partner. It can be about anything, but this will help you get comfortable with talking while filming.

Remember to not talk over each other. Leave a short break between each time you both speak.

Go through the Final Checklist. Not only to make sure your setup is giving you the look and sound quality you want, but also to practice presenting in front of a video camera. This will help you get rid of some nerves.

Tip

Remember to keep a log of what question/s you answered in each recording you took. Make sure you mark which ones you think were your best as you go along.

This will help later when editing.

Everything is digital so film as many copies as you need. Don’t assume it is perfect – watch it back. Consider having other family or friends with you on the day so that you can get feedback. You can ask for kind and useful feedback on things like:

  • How is the lighting?
  • Am I clear and can you hear me?
  • Do I look professional?
  • Have I missed any important information that an employer should know about me?
  • Any other feedback?
